Team South Africa has officially announced its squad for the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships, taking place from 21 to 27 September. Four talented swimmers will proudly represent the nation in Manchester, competing against 600 of the world’s top para athletes from 60 countries.
Originally six swimmers qualified, but reigning world champion Kat Swanepoel was forced to withdraw due to medical treatment. While her absence is felt, the team heading overseas remains a strong and exciting mix of youthful promise and seasoned experience.
Local Pietermaritzburg star, Paralympic medalist and three-time Paralympian. Ferreira brings a wealth of international experience, having competed at multiple World Championships, and is one of South Africa’s most consistent performers in the pool.
A two-time Paralympian and multiple World Championship medalist, Sadie is a proven contender on the global stage. His determination and record of success make him a strong medal hopeful in Manchester.
Another young swimmer with Paralympic and World Championship experience, Vyncke is eager to make her mark against the world’s best.
One of the youngest swimmers on the team, Hendricks has already competed at the Paris Paralympics and a previous World Championship. With his rising form, he represents the future of South African para swimming.
The team will be led by Head Coach Theo Verster, supported by two assistant coaches, a team manager, and an official from SASCOC. Together, they will ensure the athletes are fully prepared to face the world’s strongest competition.
The blend of experience and youth provides South Africa with both proven medal potential and the excitement of fresh talent on the rise. With Ferreira and Sadie’s leadership, and the energy of Hendricks and Vyncke, Team South Africa is ready to showcase its strength on the world stage.
The championships promise intense competition, but South Africa has consistently shown it can deliver when it counts. With a history of bringing home medals, expectations are high for this compact but determined squad.
As the swimmers prepare to take to the water in Manchester, they carry not just their own dreams but the hopes of a nation. Their performances will inspire the next generation of South African swimmers and underline the importance of world-class facilities like AquaPark Pietermaritzburg, where talent can be nurtured and futures built.
The team departs on 16 September, with competition kicking off on the 21st. Let’s rally behind them as they compete with courage, pride, and determination to bring glory back home.
